Taking its name from the popular German poet, author and humorist Christian Morgenstern (1871–1914), The Morgenstern Trio formed in 2005 at the Folkwang Academy in Essen. In 2007, after only two years of intensive collaboration, the trio was awarded several important prizes, including first prize at the International Joseph Haydn Competition in Vienna and in January 2010, they won the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio Award. The Achener Zeitung hails the trio's "sheer unbelievable virtuosity," while the Münchner Merkur says they provide "everything desirable in a chamber music concert: rhythm, precision, balance in sound, and perfect intonation." For their Kennedy Center debut, they bring trios by Debussy, Brahms, and Leonard Bernstein.
