About

NEA Jazz Master drummer Roy Haynes returns to the Kennedy Center for the first time in six years, showcasing his distinctive, influential drumming style. For more than six decades, he has led his own successful groups, and along the way has played with the likes of Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Billy Taylor, and Miles Davis. Come and watch as Haynes's Fountain of Youth Band of 20-something sidemen--saxophonist Jaleel Shaw, pianist Martin Bejerano, and bassist David Wong--scramble to keep up with their 85-years-young bandleader, as he performs with a breathless display of swingin' prowess. The Boston Globe says, "Calling Roy Haynes a bridge from jazz's past to its present doesn't really do the drum legend justice…Haynes keeps shaping jazz's future."
