About

Cécile McLorin Salvant, winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition, returns to Washington for her KC Jazz Club debut. The annual, prestigious Monk Competition has launched the careers of several new artists, so be sure to catch this star on the rise. Known for her unique interpretation of standard jazz classics and blues, the young French American singer is making her mark at festivals in Europe and the U.S. Ben Ratliff wrote in the New York Times, "As she sang her less-than-obvious set choices, she put the house band's players at ease, keeping close watch over solos. She seemed fresh, but also as if she had decided long ago that she was an artist."
