From Bach to Bop, Mozart to Monk, Jazz Meets the Classics is an exciting evening featuring jazz interpretations of classical works including Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 and Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2. The all-star international lineup includes The Classical Jazz Quartet--NEA Jazz Masters Ron Carter (bass) and Kenny Barron (piano), vibraphonist Stefon Harris, and drummer Lewis Nash--NEA Jazz Master clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera, Co-Artistic Director of the DC Jazz Festival, trumpeter Michael Philip Mossman, percussionist Pernell Saturnino, pianist Alex Brown, bassist Oscar Stagnaro, and drummer Mark Walker. This concert marks the eighth year of collaboration between the Kennedy Center and the DC Jazz Festival for its citywide celebration of jazz.
