An Evening of Shakespeare in Words and Music
The works of William Shakespeare have inspired artists of all different genres and art forms. The Fortas Music Chamber Concert Series presents a special evening of Shakespeare through words and music. The Last Stand Quartet, an ensemble of National Symphony Orchestra musicians, will play a range of pieces inspired by Shakespeare, including works by Byrd, Purcell, Rorem, Beethoven, Walton, and Britten. Joining them is acclaimed Emmy-winning screen and stage actor Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street), who will read selected speeches and sonnets from Shakespeare, supported by actress Reiko Aylesworth, with linking material by director and scholar Rob Clare. The performance charts the playwright's vibrant celebration of life and humanity, and reflects his deepening vision and compassion as he grew older.
