Celebrate the life, legacy, and career of legendary pianist and composer Mary Lou Williams with an impressive line-up of both veteran and up-and-coming artists in the Terrace Theater.
On May 23, vocalist Somi and trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf collaborate in Woman::Femme, a musical project inspired by recent political and social changes in North Africa and the Middle East; Patrice Rushen (piano) wows with a set with her own group; while singer-songwriter Toshi Reagon and drummer Allison Miller present Celebrate the Great Women of Blues and Jazz, a gathering of some of New York's best vocalists and musicians saluting their musical mothers.
On May 24, Trio 3--Andrew Cyrille (drums), Oliver Lake (saxophone), and Reggie Workman (bass)--performs a special program of Mary Lou Williams repertoire; Anat Cohen (clarinet and saxophone) and her quartet bring down the house in one unforgettable set; plus Kennedy Center favorite René Marie performs vocal selections from her new recording Evil Little Me: A Tribute to Eartha Kitt.
This engagement is funded through the French-American Jazz Exchange Regional Tours program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
