Last heard at the Center in 2011, the Miró Quartet is consistently praised for their deeply musical interpretations, exciting performances, and thoughtful programming. Formed in 1995, the Miró Quartet took first prizes at several national and international competitions including the Banff International String Quartet Competition and the Naumburg Chamber Music Competition. In 2005, the Miró Quartet became the first ensemble ever to be awarded the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Radiant American mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke was a sensation in her 2008 Metropolitan Opera debut as Kitty Oppenheimer in the Met's premiere of John Adams's Doctor Atomic, the DVD release of which won the 2012 Grammy Award(r) for Best Opera Recording. A graduate of the Met's Lindemann Young Artist Program, Rice University, and the Juilliard School, Cooke has performed with opera companies and symphonies around the world. She made her Fortas debut in 2009 as part of an all-Lera Auerbach concert.

The Miró Quartet and Sasha Cooke combine forces in this unique evening of chamber music for voice and strings. Several of the lieder to be performed have been arranged by Miró Quartet violist John Largess for voice and quartet, and premiered in 2012. The Oregonian praised a performance of the Mörike-Lieder, saying they were "wonderfully sung by the mesmerizing mezzo Sasha Cooke with subtle dramatic flair and an exquisite balance of vocal richness and focus…and accompanied beautifully by the Miró Quartet."
