Author of the recently released book 98% Funky Stuff, My Life in Music, saxophonist Maceo Parker embodies the legacy of soul and funk like nobody else. In the 1960s and '70s, Parker helped pioneer the genre as a key member of James Brown's band, and those of George Clinton and Bootsy Collins. His highly successful solo career has embraced funk, jazz, R&B, and more, with a string of solo recordings that have proved his merits as a composer and bandleader. The Austin American Statesman raved, "Hurricane Maceo blew through, delivering a multi-hour non-stop barrage for an audience that danced itself into a frenzy before the second song was over."
Performance Timing: 75 minutes, with no intermission.
