Octeto Academico de Caracas has displayed talents of Venezuela's first wind players for two decades, in performances given from the great cities of Spain and Italy to the capitals of every Latin American country. In the United States the Octet has been heard in New York, Washington, and elsewhere. Dmitri Drobatschewsky, music critic of The Arizona Republic, wrote that "they are all virtuosos." In this beautifully varied program, you'll hear music by several Latin American composers, along with two more familiar pieces rendered fascinatingly new in transcription for wind ensemble: Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No. 8 and Verdi's "Sempra libera" duo from La Traviata.
Part of the Kennedy Center's Millennium Celebration of the Legacy and Promise of the Performing Arts.
