About
A musical genius who was always a child at heart, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart loved pranks, practical jokes, and above all a fabulous party. So what better way to celebrate his 250th birthday than with a fun-filled concert by the NSO! Emil de Cou invites everyone to the Concert Hall to explore the music of the great composer (Just think: 250 candles is a lot to blow out--so we definitely need your help!). In his short life of only 35 years, Wolfgang Amadeus created masterpieces of all kinds. In his opera The Magic Flute, follow an Egyptian prince as he sets out to rescue a beautiful princess from the wicked Queen of the Night. Tap your toes to lively German dances like "The Sleigh Ride" and "The Canary." Enjoy excerpts from Mozart's radiant concertos for the violin and horn. Cheer to the heroic sounds of the "Jupiter" Symphony. And giggle along with his comical choruses. Full of laughter, surprises, and wonderful music, it's a party just the way Wolfgang Amadeus would like it!
Recommended for ages 7 & up
Come Early for the Musical Instrument "Petting Zoo"
Starting an hour before the concert, this hands-on activity gives young concertgoers a chance to get up close with the instruments they'll see played professionally on the stage--from violins, harps, and oboes to trombones and percussion. A project of the Women's Committee for the NSO.
Kids' Chats
Following each of the 3 p.m. Family Concerts, young audience members can ask questions and hear engaging stories in an up-close-and-personal talk with the artists.
NEW! See the Musicians Up Close on the Big Screen
Beginning this season, all NSO Family Concerts will feature Image Magnification, which projects the music-making onstage onto a giant screen above the Orchestra! It's a great way to see how the artists play their instruments as you listen to the music.
