"Boys like me are not afraid of wolves!" says Peter defiantly to his grandfather. But when one actually wanders out of the woods, what will Peter do to save his animal friends? Prokofiev's timeless musical tale of boy vs. wolf comes roaring to life with the NSO and a vaudeville-inspired performance by actor Michael Boudewyns from theater ensemble Really Inventive Stuff. The orchestra portrays each character with different instruments--flutes flutter like a bird, clarinets stalk like a cat, and horns glare like a big hungry wolf. Meanwhile, the Richmond-Times Dispatch raves: "With the help of a feather duster, a purse, two toilet plungers, and other household items charmingly turned into ad-hoc puppets, Boudewyns acted out Peter's story across the stage. We were tickled!"
For age 5 and up.
Performance Timing: Approximately 60 minutes, with no intermission
Come early for the Musical Instrument "Petting Zoo." An hour before each NSO Family Concert, young concertgoers can get up close and hands-on with the instruments they'll see played on the stage--from violins, trumpets, and oboes to trombones and percussion--in the Kennedy Center Atrium. A project of the Women's Committee for the NSO.
Stay after the 3 p.m. concerts for a Kids' Chat. Following the 3 p.m. concert, young audience members can ask questions and hear engaging stories in an up-close-and-personal talk with the concert artists.
