With its staggering demands of the soloist and the unusual addition of a male chorus singing from the verse drama Aladdin, Busoni's Piano Concerto is a behemoth masterpiece. "Scintillating" (The New York Times) pianist Garrick Ohlsson is joined by Washington Men's Camerata for this expansive work, which stylistically synthesizes the composer's dual German and Italian heritage. Making his NSO subscription concert debut, Rossen Milanov also conducts Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.

Alexander Jacobsen, NSO bass, on Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite:
"The Firebird Suite is a masterwork. The original ballet established the young Stravinsky as a preeminent composer, as well as an extremely gifted and experimental orchestrator. The piece itself is a delightful collection of sinister forces, haunting calmness, and otherworldly beauty."

Jennifer Mondie, NSO viola, on the program:
"Playing Stravinsky's Firebird is like being immersed in a fairy tale; it takes me to a different world. It will be fun to see where conductor Rossen Milanov takes us in his NSO subscription debut."

Performance Timing: Part One - 23 min.; Intermission - 15 min.; Part Two - 75 min.
