Leonidas Kavakos--who "combines utter mastery…with rich sound and searching musicianship" (New York Times)--begins his two-week residency with Sibelius's ambitious Violin Concerto. Lush melodies, turbulent colors, and energetic gypsy dances give way to an exuberant finale that calls to the fore Kavakos's full virtuosic prowess. NSO Music Director Christoph Eschenbach also continues his Mahler exploration with Symphony No. 5.
