The Playwright and the Director
Begin the series with Tom Sawyer’s playwright Ken Ludwig, and
director, Nick Olcott. They will share the process of adapting
and directing the play form of this Twain classic.

Development of the Designs
How do you pick the most versatile costume? What lights denote
the perfect mood? From the lighting of the stage to the design
of the costumes and set, you’ll get a chance to speak with the
people that translate this production from sketch to stage.
Thursday, October 24, 2002, 6-7:30 p.m.
Working Rehearsal
Watch the actors rehearse with the director during the second
week of rehearsals. Then join them in a roundtable discussion
about building characters, problem solving, and their
collaborative efforts during the rehearsal process.
Thursday, November 7, 2002, 6-7:30 p.m.
Technical Rehearsal
Now everything comes together for the first timeand you’ll be
there in the midst of the production process during the first
technical rehearsal. You’ll see and hear the performers
rehearsing, watch lighting and sound cues being set and
integrated, and see the director making final decisions.
After the rehearsal, the director and designers will answer
questions.

Opening Performance and Cast Party
This is it: the show is ready! See The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer in its final form with the audience. Following the
performance, join the designers, cast, and director at the cast
party.
