Honoring the legendary talents who have paved the way in jazz music, Kennedy Center Artistic Advisor for Jazz Dr. Billy Taylor and film archivist Bob DeFlores share their personal stories and rare film clips of performances by the greats. Film clips feature Louis Armstrong, Oscar Peterson, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Thelonious Monk, Red Nichols and His Five Pennies, and Cab Calloway. This three-part series begins with a rare screening of the 1947 color cartoon/live-action film A Date with the Duke, featuring Duke Ellington.
