Young Australian director Justin Way works closely with the originators of this delightful Covent Garden production, French directors Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser. Together with Rossini specialist, conductor Riccardo Frizza, they will recapture the magic of "an opera-buffa staging that was witty and human, intelligently attentive to text and music, with sets and costumes that were smart, colorful and..right up to the mark of Rossini's effervescent and spirited score" (Opera News).
Mistreated by her greedy stepfather and social-climbing step-sisters, our heroine goes from rags to riches when she wins the heart of a prince who changes places with his valet to search for his true love. Cinderella's prince charming is the dashing young tenor Jesus Garcia, and Simone Alberghini returns as Dandini, the valet who passes himself off as a prince. The comically charismatic Alfonso Antoniozzi takes on the buffo role of Don Magnifico, Cinderella's stepfather.
