About
World-acclaimed Washington-born singer Denyce Graves stars as
the gypsy Azucena, one of the greatest mezzo-soprano roles in
all of Italian opera. This Verdi masterpiece is an explosive
tale of war, love, and madness, full of operatic favorites from
the pounding "Anvil Chorus" to Azucena's searing "Stride la
vampa." Conducted by Music Director Heinz Fricke and directed
by Stephen Lawless, Washington National Opera treats Verdi's
great work to two outstanding casts: Carmen Giannattasio and
Krassimira Stoyanova as Leonora, Mikhail Davidoff and Carl Tanner
as Manrico, and Wolfgang Brendel and Roberto Servile as Count
di Luna.
Performed in Italian with English Supertitles
