Rossini's hilarious romp L'Italiana in Algeri brings WNO's 50th season to an end. For this story of a gutsy Italian girl who outwits a lust-driven Pasha, Plácido Domingo has assembled a dream cast with the great Olga Borodina in the mezzo-coloratura title role and the internationally acclaimed Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez in the high-flying coloratura role of Lindoro. The renowned Russian bass Ildar Abdrazakov (who happens to be Ms. Borodina's real-life husband) is the sex-crazed Pasha Mustafa. The opera is conducted by Riccardo Frizza, who led the company's brilliant 2004 production of La Cenerentola, and David Kneuss directs.
