The Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition is hailed as the most prestigious jazz competition in the world, launching the careers of some of today's jazz sensations including Joshua Redman, Jane Monheit, Marcus Roberts, Roberta Gambarini, Tierney Sutton, Joey DeFrancesco, Gretchen Parlato, and many more. This year's 25th Anniversary Competition will feature the piano and will be judged by an illustrious panel including Herbie Hancock, Ellis Marsalis, Jason Moran, and Danilo Perez

As part of this year's Competition, the Institute will present a 25th Anniversary All-Star Gala Benefit Concert to celebrate its enormous impact on jazz over the past quarter century. This concert will honor the incomparable Aretha Franklin for her longtime support of the Institute, and will feature past Competition winners, internationally renowned artists, and young aspiring jazz musicians, including participants in the Institute's public school and college programs.

The evening's co-hosts will include Thelonious Monk, Jr, Phylicia Rashad, Billy Dee Williams, and others to be announced. Major stars from stage, television, and film, along with internationally acclaimed musicians and jazz masters, will come together to honor the Institute. All proceeds from the Gala Concert will be allocated to support public school jazz education programs in Washington, D.C. and across the country. For further information, please visit
