About

Renowned in Europe and a great favorite in Italy and France, Anna Caterina Antonacci embraces both soprano and mezzo-soprano roles. Ms. Antonacci was recently awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Légion d'honneur by the French Republic, its highest national distinction. She has received great acclaim for her recent Carmen and her 2009 one-woman show with the English Concert of Monteverdi's Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, performing it as a monologue of ferocious complexity that UK's The Guardian called "unforgettable." In recent years she has concentrated on the dramatic soprano repertory, scoring success as Cassandra in Les Troyens, Elettra in Idomeneo, Alceste, and Medea.

"The wonderful Antonacci protrays the sensual, witty, doomed anti-heroine with devastating truthfulness... Carmen has never sounded more revolutionary, romantic, or thrillingly vibrant." (The Times, June 2009)

Her recital tour includes major destinations in Europe and America, including Washington for her appearance here with Vocal Arts DC. She will be joined by the internationally recognized pianist Donald Sulzen in a program entitled "Echoes of the belle epoque," featuring works by Fauré and Hahn in the first half, and Italian selections by Tosti, Cilea, Mascagni, Respighi, and Refice in Part Two.
