Israeli-born Gidon Saks, now a resident of Canada, has been charming audiences worldwide in critically acclaimed performances, as Claggart (Billy Budd) in Paris, Hagen (Götterdämmerung) in Italy, the Four Villains (Les contes d'Hoffmann) in England, and as Bluebeard at the Concertgebouw. Other operatic highlights include Don Giovanni, Boris Godunov, Sarastro, and Boito's Mefistofele. He has also performed the title role in Handel's Hercules and in Saul, the latter winning a Gramophone Award. A professor of voice in Ghent, Belgium, he often gives master classes internationally. He has appeared in several Wagner roles with Washington National Opera, receiving high praise from the Washington Post. "... a major artist... his Hagen was unusually young, an Iago-like villain bristling with dark anger."

"It was Gidon Saks's Claggart that pushed this Billy Budd over the edge into greatness. It was an extraordinarily powerful, diseased creation, and completely inside the role...It was a fantastic performance." (Opera Magazine, January 2008)

With the renowned accompanist Roger Vignoles, Mr. Saks offers a program of selections by Handel and Shostakovich, John Musto's Shadow of the Blues with texts by Langston Hughes, songs by Finzi and Ibert, and Victorian Parlour Songs by various composers .
