About

In celebration of George Gershwin's 114th birthday on September 26th, pianist Jack Gibbons brings a program of Gershwin's virtuoso show tune improvisations, reconstructed note-for-note from the composer's recordings on 78s, radio broadcasts, and piano rolls from the 1920s and 1930s. Also on the program are transcriptions of the concert works An American in Paris and Rhapsody in Blue, along with music by Gibbons and by Chopin's contemporary Charles-Valentin Alkan.

Jack Gibbons is recognized as one of the world's greatest interpreters of the piano music of George Gershwin, having been described by the BBC as "THE Gershwin pianist of our time." His numerous performances in New York, London, and elsewhere have received standing ovations and critical acclaim. In June 2010 Gibbons was appointed artist-in-residence at Davis & Elkins College, located in the arts-oriented community of Elkins in West Virginia's Appalachian Mountains.
