About

In South Africa's notorious Robben Island prison camp, two cellmates prepare to perform scenes from Sophocles' "Antigone" and grapple with their harsh environment, unexpected hope, overwhelming despair, and the strength of their friendship. Written by revered South African playwright Athol Fugard, "The Island" celebrates human connections even in the most dehumanizing situations; lead actors John Kani and Winston Ntshona won Tony Awards for their performances in the original 1975 production. "A play of genuine nobility" (The Telegraph, UK).
(Note: Performances replaces "The Unexpected Man" which was cancelled.)
