About
Tony Award®-winning actress and singer Patti LuPone (Evita, Master Class) stars in this semi-staged concert version of Marc Blitzstein's soaring musical drama Regina, hailed as "a remarkable achievement" by the New York Times when it premiered on Broadway in 1949. Adapted from Lillian Hellman's classic play The Little Foxes, this distinctively American opera chronicles a rich Southern family circa 1900 torn apart by greed. Juxtaposing operatic lyricism with spirituals, ragtime, blues, and Dixieland, this new production of Regina will be conducted by Steven Mercurio on the centennial of Blitzstein's birth. Part of the Kennedy Center-wide festival A New America: The 1940s and the Arts.
