One of Russia's oldest and most distinguished musical institutions, The Mariinsky Orchestra (formerly the Kirov Orchestra) and music director Valery Gergiev are joined by the majestic voices of the Choral Arts Society of Washington and Spain's Orfeón Pamplonés for Mahler's epic "Symphony of a Thousand." The Los Angeles Times comments that the orchestra "is a perfectly balanced, impeccably blended virtuoso instrument, and Gergiev plays it with masterly élan."
