Comprised of alumni from the Sphinx competition for young black and Latino string players, the conductorless Sphinx Virtuosi ensemble has been described as "first rate in every way" and producing "a more beautiful, precise and carefully shaped sound than some fully professional orchestras that come through Carnegie Hall in the course of the year" (The New York Times). The concert is underwritten in memory of renowned violinist Isaac Stern, a long-time supporter of young musicians. The program will include works by Bach, Glass, Vivaldi, Ginastera, Pärt, Perkinson, and Piazzolla.
Performance Timing: Part One - 50 min.; Intermission - 18 min.; Part Two - 39 min.
