About
To officially commemorate Commodore Perry's historic visit to
Japan and the U.S. and Japan's subsequent signing of the Treaty
of Peace and Amity in 1854, the Embassy of Japan and the Kennedy
Center are collaborating to present more than 50 dancers and
musicians in a visually stunning performance of kyogen
theater and dance presented by celebrated Japanese producer
and director Mannojo Nomura and his company Ethnos.
The English translation of "Nippongaku" is "stream of Japanese entertainment." In this ceremonial commemoration, representatives from the Embassy will speak, and the U.S. and Japan national anthems will be sung.
