Named after Philadelphia's pioneering opera singer, the award is given to American singers of great promise who have already achieved some success in opera, in recital, and in the orchestra/oratorio repertory.  This year's recipient is soprano Indira Mahajan.  A 1988 Oberlin graduate, she has trained at the New School's Mannes College of Music and performed as a soloist with Washington National Opera.
