About
Abou Lagraa, Artistic Director
"Brilliant synthesis of contemporary and hip-hop styles"
--Le Figaro
Founded in 1997, France-based Cie La BARAKA makes its Washington, D.C. premiere with Allegoria Stanza, a piece for seven contemporary and three hip hop dancers, set against Charles Picq's videos of water. Fusing hip hop, contemporary dance, and multimedia visuals to stunning effect, Artistic Director and choreographer Abou Lagraa "does the unexpected" (Seattle Post-Intelligencer). Lagraa employs a wide variety of movement styles and musical influences that combine his North African roots with conservatory training to create a vision uniquely his own.
