"Australia's most sensual performing-arts troupe"
--Time Magazine
One of Australia's most unique and innovative dance companies, Bangarra Dance Theatre is renowned for its fusion of traditional indigenous culture with contemporary dance resulting in captivating and visually spectacular dance works. Fueled by the spirit, energy, and inspiration derived from the culture, values, and traditions of Indigenous Australians, the troupe creates theater that is artistically innovative, technically outstanding, and truly exciting.
For its eagerly awaited Kennedy Center return, Bangarra presents one of its newest works, Awakenings, which Sydney's Sun Herald called "an evocative blend of themes." Exploring the spiritual rituals and symbolism of Aboriginal life as the present generation strives to respect their ancestral past, Awakenings "resonates with the state of the world" (The Sydney Morning Herald). In 2004, the Washington Post declared Bangarra's Kennedy Center engagement of Bush "a stimulating, rich, and textured portrait of spirituality."
