About

The Washington Post calls the National Ballet of China "most adept at fusing Western and Chinese forms." Returning to the Kennedy Center after their acclaimed 2005 appearance, the company will perform a mixed repertory program. Demonstrating the company's commitment to incorporate the rich heritage of Chinese classical and folk dance into contemporary ballet, the performance will include excerpts from The Red Detachment of Women (quoted in John Adams' opera Nixon in China), and Swan Lake, as well as The Yellow River, which appeared at the 2005 Festival of China and was praised by the Washington Post as "an exuberant bang of ballet steps and acrobatic moves."
