About
--The Times, UK
Two dancers and two classical Indian dance forms fuse to create Samanvaya--Sanskrit for "a coming together. The geometrical linear structure of bharatanatyam and the sensuous ebb and flow of odissi accentuate each other through contrast when performed by two renowned Indian dancers and choreographers, Madhavi Mudgal and Alarmel Valli.
Contributing to the evolution of classical odissi dance, New Delhi's Madhavi Mudgal is India's premier odissi exponent. Known for using expressive hand motions and gestures, she has garnered awards and acclaim for sustaining and evolving the art form.
Chennai's Alarmel Valli is a master of bharatanatyam, one of the oldest dance forms in India, which features quick-paced, nimble footwork, restrained floor work, expressive hand gestures, and a complex system of head and eye movements.
