A powerful dance-theater work that has become a landmark in contemporary Indian dance, Sarpagati: The Way of the Serpent is inspired by and draws upon rituals, myth, and symbolism associated with the snake. The first Indian woman soloist in chhau, an ancient dance from east India, Trivandrum's Daksha Sheth creates choreography that features warrior-like movements animated with raw, primal energy combined with the traditional kathak style of dance. She was also the first to introduce aerial technique into Indian dance, as is demonstrated in Sarpagati.
