"Noism is a veritable supernova in the rapidly expanding universe of Japanese contemporary dance."
--The Japan Times Online
With its blend of western forms and eastern influences, Jo Kanamori/Dance Company Noism is on the cutting edge of contemporary dance. Whether exploring the sheer mechanics of human movement or the interplay of culture and technology, Japan's first civically funded dance company has something to say about greater society.
A snippet of Noism's imaginative commentary was witnessed during their performance of Nina as part of the Kennedy Center's JAPAN: culture + hyperculture festival in 2008. The Washington Post praised that work as "the ultimate in minimalism. It was an impressively complete sublimation to an artistic goal." Now the company returns to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Japan's gift of cherry trees to the people of the United States.
