Tord Gustavsen Ensemble, led by the pianist, has been a solid fixture on the Norwegian jazz scene for many years. Gustavsen has myriad influences, including Scandinavian folk music, gospel, Caribbean music, and cool jazz, melding them together into a unique mix of Nordic introspection and lyricism. The Guardian describes his sound as "meditative but subtly gospel-tinged." His most recent release won a Spellemannsprisen, the Norwegian Grammy Award.
