About

Lebanese artist Lara Baladi, winner of the Grand Nile Award at the Cairo Biennial for her project Borg El Amal, brings a mesmerizing installation to the festival. Roba Vecchia evokes a scene familiar to Cairo's streets--the ongoing tradition of collecting, recycling, and reworking leftovers of the past in a continuous rewriting of a non-narrative history. The installation presents image fragments of the artist's work recomposed with photographs into a shifting array of kaleidoscopic images or "kalos eidos" (beautiful forms).
