About

25th Annual Playwright Discovery Evening

VSA arts presents the world premiere of an outstanding play about disability by a high school student. In this program, one script is selected from hundreds of submissions and is professionally produced, headlining an evening at the Kennedy Center.

The recipient of the 2009 VSA arts Playwright Discovery Award is Ali Pavuk of Waretown, New Jersey. In For the Love of Goldfish, co-workers Julia and Evan attempt to hide their romantic feelings for each other, along with their respective disabilities. Reminiscent of The Office, this hilarious comedy is about love, self-esteem, and the importance of being honest.

Pavuk will be a junior at Ocean County Vocational Technical School Performing Arts Academy this fall, where she studies acting. Ali also loves to write poetry, songs, and short stories. For the Love of Goldfish is the 16-year-old's first play.

This performance, which runs 1 hour without intermission, is a FREE event.  Tickets are required and may be reserved by contacting the Presenter, VSA arts.  Please e-mail Artist Services Coordinator Liza Key at efkey@vsarts.org or call (202) 628-2800. Include the number of tickets requested, the name under which the tickets should be held at the will call table, and any accessibility requests.
