COOL CLUB
For the duration of Nordic Cool 2013, the Terrace Gallery will become the Cool Club, an extension of the Nordic Design Illustrated exhibition. The Cool Club will feature the iconic Arne Jacobsen Series 7 chairs, on loan from Fritz Hansen, the Embassy of Denmark in Washington, D.C., and Furniture from Scandinavia, and a new curtain made from fabric by Marimekko.
 
Greenlandic photojournalist Jørgen Chemnitz is best known for his Names and Faces exhibits from 2009. In his recent project Breaking the Ice, he explores the daily effects of climate change as experienced by the people of Ilulissat--situated near the famous Illulissat Icefjord, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004--through photography and video interviews. While for many people climate change may remain a distant and elusive risk, in Greenland it is already a reality. In this conversation, Chemnitz will speak about the realities of global warming, as witnessed through his lens. 

The forum is moderated by Dr. Lars Krutak, a DC-based anthropologist, photographer, and writer working in the Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution. For over a decade, Dr. Krutak has worked with Native Alaskans and other indigenous peoples of North America to facilitate the repatriation of human remains, funerary objects, and ceremonial objects from museum collections. Dr. Krutak's other research interests include global forms of indigenous body art and his books, The Tattooing Arts of Tribal Women (2007), Kalinga Tattoo: Ancient and Modern Expressions of the Tribal (2010), Magical Tattoos and Scarification: Spiritual Skin (2012), document these vanishing traditions.

This is a FREE event. General Admission tickets will be distributed, two (2) per person on a first-come-- first-serve basis, in front of the theater, 30 minutes before the performance begins.
