Matthew Bourne and New Adventures make their Kennedy Center debut with a magical new dance adaptation of the classic Tim Burton motion picture Edward Scissorhands. This touching and witty gothic fairy-tale follows the story of a boy created by an eccentric inventor, whose sudden death leaves the boy alone and unfinished. With only scissors for hands, Edward must find his place in a strange new suburban world, where the well-meaning community struggles to see past his appearance to the gentleness within. A treat for the whole family, this exciting dance event features new music and arrangements based on themes from the original motion picture score composed by Danny Elfman, to be performed live by the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra.

Renowned for his inspired interpretations of beloved stories, five-time Olivier Award winner Matthew Bourne has also dazzled international audiences with his Broadway production of Swan Lake. The world's longest-running ballet production, Swan Lake has made him the only British director to win Tony Awards for both Best Director and Best Choreographer. His other triumphs include Nutcracker! and Highland Fling, an adaptation of La Sylphide.

Running Time:  approximately 2 hrs. with intermission.

Performance Plus™:  On Feb. 13, join a post-performance discussion with director/choreographer Matthew Bourne and members of the company, free with your performance ticket.
