Carey Colvin & On the Air
Born at Edwards Air Force Base in California, singer/songwriter Carey Colvin is the daughter of an Air Force fighter pilot and grew up in such diverse places as Japan, Florida, Georgia, Virginia and California. This interesting lifestyle exposed Colvin to many different views of life which are reflected in the rich diversity of her music.
Colvin's many musical influences include Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Led Zepplin, The Ike & Tina Turner Revue, Jimmie Spheeris, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Yes, Glen Miller Orchestra, Steely Dan, Carole King and the Andrews Sisters. A recipient of the 1997 WAMMIE Award for Female Vocalist, Folk-Contemporary, Colvin's discography includes The Distance Wall, CD Wannabe, We Be Rollin', A Holiday Feast Vol. IV, For The Harmony, Sneak Peek of Bamboo, and VOW.
Colvin has been a featured performer in many songwriter showcases including The Philadelphia Music Conference and the Takoma Park Festival. With the Roger Henderson Trio, she has performed at The Birchmere, and she has been a featured artist on many radio stations. She has also opened at the Cellar Door Stage for Styx and Pat Benatar at the Nissan Pavillion.
Colvin can be seen performing solo, as a duo with Granger Helvey, and with her band, Carey Colvin & On The Air (Granger Helvey, Doug Rainoff, and Kirby Yarbrough).
