Shemekia Copeland

Born in Harlem, New York in 1979, Shemekia Copeland is the daughter of the late Texas blues guitar legend Johnny Clyde Copeland. By the time she was fifteen, she realized that music and singing in particular was all she wanted and needed. She joined her father on the road when she was just sixteen. In 1998 Alligator released “Turn The Heat Up,” her first album, to massive popular and critical acclaim. The opening song of “Wicked,” her 2000 release, won the W.
