Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance (The Kennedy Center)

Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance

The Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance, founded in 1997, currently enrolls more than 400 students. Director Sean Culkin’s goal for the school is to preserve the unique tradition of Irish music and dance and pass it on to new generations of dancers, having fun while learning. Competition and performance are not the focus of the school though it prepares students to compete and perform with success and pride. If a dancer chooses not to compete, the school provides many opportunities for dancers to utilize the skills they have learned by participating in ceilis and/or performances scheduled throughout the year. A secondary goal of the school is to share Irish music and dance with the Baltimore and Washington, D.
