The Dance Institute of Washington

As an extension of the Kennedy Center's Dance Theatre of Harlem Community Residency (DTH Residency) program, the Center sponsored a local summer dance program at the Dance Institute of Washington. The five-week summer dance program included classes in ballet technique, pas de deux, jazz, and character; and also offered seminars related to dance. Fabian Barnes, Founding Director of the Dance Institute of Washington and a former principal dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH), and Deane Anderson, a former dancer with DTH, were instructors for the Summer Dance Program. In addition, Kellye Gordon-Sanders, principal dancer with DTH, taught a one-week technique class. The summer dance program culminates in a performance by the students on Friday, August 11, 2000, on the Millennium Stage.
