Egri & Pertis
Monika Egri and Attila Pertis were both born in 1966 in Budapest, Hungary. After finishing their studies in Budapest, Egri and Pertis moved to Vienna, Austria, where they studied at the Musikhochschule der Stadt Wien with Professor Heinz Medjimorec, the pianist of the Haydn Trio Vienna, and they obtained their Piano Diploma. They began performing as a duo in the 1980s, with a public concert in England at the ôHungarian Cultural Days in Londonö Festival.
In 1990 the duo won the International Competition for Piano Duos at Finale Ligure, Italy, and additionally were awarded a special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary piece. The award resulted in their participation in gala concerts on Italian and Hungarian television and, since then, they have performed at the Budapest Spring Festival, the Vienna Musikverein, many prestigious Austrian Festivals and concert series like the Carinthian Summer Festival, Oberosterreichische Stiftskonzerte, Laxenburger Schlosskonzerte, Musiksommer Klaus, and the Vienna Festival at the Brahms Saal of the Musikverein.
Egri and Pertis married in 1991 and in 1995 Egri & Pertis were again awarded a prize, this time at the 11th International Piano Duo Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy.
Their first CD, ôJourney Around the World,ö was released in 1995 to critical acclaim, and their second (double) CD, ôLiszt Opera Fantasies,ö recently received the ôGrand Prix du Disque Liszt.ö
