Grupo Saveiro

Twice voted “the best Brazilian group in the United States” by the Brazilian International Press Association, Grupo Saveiro specializes in the type of samba known as “pagode,” a lively and joyful style of music featuring typical instrumentation like cavaquinho, violao, and percussion. The group has performed at many venues including, the annual Brazilian Independence Day celebration in Manhattan, Lincoln Center’s “Midsummer Night Swing,” Queens Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art “First Saturday,” Irving Plaza, Manhattan Center, and Windows On The World. Based in New York, they performed regularly at festivals, clubs and events throughout the East Coast. Grupo Saveiro consists of Cesar Vieira (tantan and vocals); Jorje Silva (pandeiro and vocals); Carlinhos Almeida (cavaquinho, guitar and vocals); Dionisio Santos (guitar and cavaquinho); and Helio Schivo (bateria). The core formation often expands to nine musicians.
