The John Previti Mingus Monk Tribute

John Previti, an area native, began playing electric bass while in high school, then moved to studying upright bass at Prince George's Community College in 1972. The name of his current ensemble, the Mingus/Monk Tribute, is Mr. Previti's way of honoring Charles Mingus and Thelonius Monk, two jazz legends. Mr. Previti, an upright bass player of much renown, spent many years holding down the low end with the late guitar legend Danny Gatton, and after Gatton ended his life in 1994 the bassist pondered his future.
