Kayaga of Africa

Kayaga of Africa was formed in 1993 as an all-female group. It became “co-ed” in 1995, and performs in colleges, schools, festivals, concert halls and churches. The aim of the group is to bring the varied culture of Uganda to people abroad through musical instruments, dancing and drama. Using a variety of instruments including Endongo (bowl lyre) and Ndingidi (tube fiddle), Akogo (thumb piano) Madinda (zylophone) and Drums, among others, Kayaga gives their audiences a taste of East Africa. Kayaga dances include: Bakisimba (graceful waist dancing); Kizino (dance of the Bakiga people); Runyege (leg rattle courtship dance); Kwasa kwasa (modern waist dancing that began in Congo); Dingi-dingi.
