Kev Carmody

Irish-Aboriginal musician Kev Carmody hails from western Queensland, Australia, where he grew up listening to American artists such as Woody Guthrie, Huddy Ledbetter, Jimmie Rogers and Blind Willie McTell. Following high school, he spent 17 years as a farmhand and factory worker. At age 33, he had the opportunity to attend college, and it was there his musical career began. While completing his doctorate in history, Carmody released his first album, ôPillars of Society,ö in 1989 and since then has recorded eight more albums drawing from musical influences as diverse as blues, reggae, and funk. When he is not on the road, Carmody devotes his time to public service, playing for inmates at Australian prisons and working on behalf of organizations that assist underprivileged children.
