Shafatullah Khan

Debuting at the Kings Lyon festival in England at the age of 11 before the Queen Mother, Shafaatullah Khan is the first known Indian artist to have performed in a single recital on the sitar, surbahar, and tabla, at the most prestigious concert halls, music festivals and universities around the world. As a descendent of one of the most respected musical families in India, he represents the eighth generation in a lineage that can be traced back to the golden age of the arts under the reign of the Mughal Emperor Akbar of 16th century India. Khan began his career on sitar and surbahar under the tutelage of his father, Ustad Imrat Khan, who, along with his brother, Ustad Vilayat Khan, are two of the legendary maestros of India. He later developed a passion for the tabla and went on to study under the guidance of Ustad Ibrahim Khan, a well-known master of rare and ancient tabla compositions of the varying regions of India. He has since performed at the Acropolis, Royal Albert Hall, The Great Hall of the Kremlin, Lincoln Center, Suntory Hall, and the Smithsonian Institute.
