Jeremy Kittel

Jeremy Kittel is rapidly earning a reputation as one of the nation’s top young traditional musicians. Named US National Scottish Fiddle Champion in 2000 as a 16-year-old – after capturing the junior title two years running – he brought down the house the following year during an appearance on the public radio show A Prairie Home Companion. Increasingly in demand in the Midwest with performances at Scottish, Irish and folk festivals and concerts, Kittel has also performed in New England and Canada and was selected for a Formal Showcase at last year’s Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference. A senior in jazz performance at the University of Michigan, Kittel was awarded the American String Teacher Association’s Alfred Award for Best Improvisation and the International Association for Jazz Education Award for Best Jazz Performance at the 2003 Alternative Strings Competition. Kittel’s first CD, Celtic Fiddle, was called “one of the top 20 Celtic albums of the year 2000, and certainly the best album by a new young artist” by Bryan Kelso Crow of the nationally syndicated radio show Celtic Connections.
